(Sarasota, FL) Robert “Bob” Trendler, who was a fixture at WGN-TV in Chicago and a longtime member of the Florida Broadcaster’s Club, has died at age 99. Mr. Trendler passed away of natural causes Tuesday in Bradenton, FL.
He was the musical director at WGN-TV and was known to generations of kids in the Midwest as the bandleader of “Bozo’s Circus”, one of the longest running children’s television shows in history. Bob Trendler led the thirteen piece Big Top Band from 1961 to 1975.
Bob Trendler began his career in broadcasting at WLW in Cincinnati in the early thirties before moving on to Chicago’s WGN radio in 1935, eventually becoming musical director of the WGN Orchestra in 1956.
Mr. Trendler was a member of the Florida Broadcaster’s Club in Sarasota and was honored with the organization’s “Pioneer of the Year” award a few years ago.
Bob Trendler’s funeral will be held Thursday July 21 at First Presbyterian Church at 15t St. and Manatee Ave. in Bradenton, FL beginning at 11:00 a.m.
