The “Longmire” second TV season ended last night Aug. 26, 2013 on the A&E cable TV network at 10/9 p.m. The season finale episode was called, “Bad Medicine” & it revealed many answers to some tough questions about homicide, revenge & Cheyenne tribal customs that should be left alone. The ratings for last week's cable TV shows were not available. Neither was the overnight ratings for Monday according to the official website called “TV by the numbers” that tracks all television ratings.
“Longmire” has been steady with viewership all season by remaining above a 3.0 TV rating. That is staying power with a strong fan base that stretches over two TV seasons. The show is set in Absaroka County, Wyoming, but filmed in the state of New Mexico. It stars Robert Taylor (Walt Longmire), Lou Diamond Phillips (Henry Standing Bear), Katee Sackhoff (Vic Moretti), Bailey Chase (Branch Connally), Adam Bartley (The Ferg) & Cassidy Freeman (Cady Longmire).
The “Bad Medicine” episode opens with Walt Longmire riding his horse across the field in front of his log cabin. The Ferg calls Walt to a motel where a man was badly beaten. It turns out to be Ed who had been stalking Vic Moretti. He was also calling her cell phone at least 30 times in 24 hours. Walt recently intervened on behalf of Vic & threatened Ed in that very same motel.
Walt visits Ed in the hospital who was badly beaten up & accuses Walt of having sex with Vic. Walt later confronts Vic & asks what was the nature of their relationship in Philadelphia. He tells her also that he threatened Ed to leave town if he didn't leave her alone. Vic admits that there was something between her & Ed, but it was long before her own marriage.
Officer Mathias (Zahn McClarnon) holds Branch Connally for trying to break into a house on the Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Branch tells Walt that he found the man who set up the car accident of Cady Longmire. That man is David Ridges (David Midthunder) who Branch wanted to question about the accident. They both go to David's house & find a home video where he committed suicide on camera. His body was also missing from that house.
David was the bartender who worked at the campaign party of Walt on the day before the election. Branch believes that David worked on behalf of Tribal leader Jacob Nighthorse. David followed Cady in her car before the hit & run. It was all to sabotage the election so Branch could win the sheriff seat away from Walt. (Jacob funded Branch's campaign ads). Branch confronted Jacob who denied everything about Cady's accident, but he did take David's body from his house.
Vic goes to the hospital to see Ed & it isn't pretty. He wants her to feel what he felt when everything was taken away from him back in Philadelphia. Ed apparently lost his partner & his wife because of Vic's actions. She turned in Ed's partner for things he did illegally. Then she left town & ended up in Absaroka County. She put an envelope on Ed's hospital bed & says she can arrange something.
Henry Standing Bear tells Walt about the “bad medicine” surrounding the whole situation. Vic goes on suspension. Branch visits Jacob at his office, but gets nowhere. Detective Fales (Charles S. Dutton) comes with a warrant to search Walt's house & office. He thinks Walt killed the man who murdered his wife. Officer Mathias confronts Henry & asks him directly about the homicides in Denver.
Did Walt kill the man who murdered his wife? Did a Cheyenne native beat up Ed? Is Jacob covering up the investigation of the car accident that injured Cady? Why did they arrest Henry? Did Ed leave town? Who shot Branch as he was gathering evidence?
