The NBC affiliate KOB 4 news reported on Wednesday Mar. 13, 2013 that the second TV season of "Longmire" will begin shooting at the end of March through mid-August. The filming will be at Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Los Alamos & in other cities throughout New Mexico. The modern western earned huge TV ratings in its’ first season (2012) which aired on the A&E cable TV network. It is based on the Craig Johnson mystery novels surrounding Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), Lou Diamond Phillips (Henry Standing Bear) & Katee Sackoff (Vic Moretti). It is set in Absaroka County, Wyoming that borders an Indian Reservation. ‘Facebook’ fans of the show cannot wait for the new season to begin.
Lawmakers have passed a ‘Bill’ through the New Mexico state ‘House’ & ‘Senate’ that raises TV show incentives from 25% to 30%. That ‘Bill’ has now been sent to the desk of the state Governor Susana Martinez. Since more & more TV shows are coming to the ‘Land of Enchantment.’ The tax incentives would give TV productions more money if & when the show has a long TV season run. “Breaking Bad” is now filming its’ 5th TV season & “In Plain Sight” also ran for 5 seasons shooting all episodes in N.M. “Longmire” will not benefit from this new ‘Bill’ unless it continues on for a few more seasons & production staying in the state or until the Governor signs the ‘Bill.”
According to the official website for the ‘New Mexico Film Office’ the “Longmire” TV drama will, - “Employ over 175 New Mexico crew members and over 200 New Mexico principal and background talent.”
‘Robert Baxter Casting’ had a casting call for background extras for "Longmire" last Dec. 2012. The open call was also for a database of performers when TV & film productions come to the state. Robert recently sent out a casting notice for the new Western “Jane Got a Gun” starring Natalie Portman & Michael Fassbender. If Native Americans would still like to work as background extras on ‘Longmire’ or any other production here is Robert’s casting email. Please send actor headshot & phone number to: robertbaxtercasting@gmail.com
