Long Run Hounds celebrates its 50th anniversary with Spring Mock Hunt

Long Run Hounds of Simpsonville, Kentucky is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Come join the fun and learn the basics of foxhunting at the Spring Mock Hunt scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2011.

This event is designed to be a low stress outing to enjoy friends, horseback riding and hunt country. You'll meet the Huntsmen, Field Masters, Whippers-In and Long Run Hound members who will be there to guide you through the basics of fox chasing and etiquette in the hunt field.

There will be four fields, accomodating any skill level:

  • 1st/Jumping field: Fast pace with some galloping, riders need to be capable of jumping coops & natural fences of 3’.
  • 2nd Field/ No jumping: Riders will have a fast pace with galloping.
  • 3rd Field/ Walk & Trot Only: For riders who can ride a horse independently but do not wish to go faster than a trot.
  • 4th Field/Lead-line: Younger children who need their horse to be led or for those wanting to walk only.

Don't forget to come properly dressed, which is an etiquette-must when hunting. This includes a helmet, appropriate footwear, ratcatcher, coat, breeches (tan or beige), stock tie/choker and women in hair nets.

Of course, the most fun is after riding when the tailgating begins! Lots of food, drink and conversation.

The cost is only $30. Starts at noon. Plan on arriving at 11:15 and being mounted by 11:45 am. Tally-ho!
