Long Island Schools Guide: Bayport-Blue Point Budget Vote

Get out and voteZF Photography

Good or bad - for or against it, the school budget vote is on Tuesday, May 18 in the High School Gym, 200 Snedecor Avenue, Bayport from 7 am to 9 pm.  Everyone in the district should try to get out and vote - it is an important budget because of these crazy economic times.

The proposed school budget for 2010-2011 is a 2.56 percent increase over the current budget.  An agreement that was just reach between the school district and the Bayport - Blue Point Teachers Association will freeze salaries for an 18 month period.  Included in the budget is the reduction of 28 staff positions through attrition and layoffs.  No programs within the schools will be cut or added.  There is a proposition to reduce the number of school board members from nine to seven.

Also up for vote are three positions for three year terms on the Bayport - Blue Point Board of Education.  James S. March incumbent president is being challenged by William P. Zoller.  Rita Palma is running against board member Molly E. Licalzi.  Leonard Camarda is an incumbent and is running unopposed.
