While the MTA will be installing PTC (Positive Train Control) on all LIRR heavily used lines in 2014 after the Metro North derailment in The Bronx December 1st, they will not install the feature on the lightly used single track Ronkonkoma Branch on eastern Long Island between Ronkonkoma and Greenport nor will signaling be installed. Trains on Ronkonkoma Branch use MBS (Manual Block System) between Greenport and Ronkonkoma where trains meet the main line to Jamaica and Penn Station. Trains need to be dispatched by radio both ways on the Ronkonkoma Branch.
