A group in the Queens, NY section of Ozone Park along abandoned Long Island Railroad Rockaway Beach Branch wants to preserve 3.5 miles of the right of way between Ozone Park and Richmond Hill and make it into a version of Manhattan's High Line along The Hudson River. This Long Island version would be called The Queensway. Future plans are to preserve the entire line as was done with the High Line. The Rockaway Beach Branch is of both all steel viaduct and attractive steel and arch concrete viaduct design.
Other Long Island Railroad preservation's are a pair of Gantry cranes with large white name LONG on one Gantry Bridge and ISLAND on adjacent one at Long Island City. Last used by PRR until mid 1960's when they and other NYC and NJ Harbor Railroads curtailed marine operations by rerouting freight to much longer routes.
