Police officers responding to a noise complaint arrested a Long Island man on manslaughter charges Sunday night after they found a man stabbed on a Central Islip street, Suffolk County police said March 10.

Wilfredo Flores, 28, of Bay Shore, was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter. He was awaiting arraignment Monday at First District Court in Central Islip on the felony charge, which could land him behind bars for up to 25 years.

Police said Third Precinct patrol officers were called to a home at 7 Pinewood Ave. in Central Islip shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday night after a 911 call that “people were yelling at that location,” authorities said.

When police arrived on scene, they found 40-year-old Carlos Velasquez lying in the street with a stab wound in his torso. Velasquez was rushed to Southside Hospital and died from his injuries, a news release said.

Investigators said witnesses held Flores until police arrived. He was taken to court Monday morning in a white prison jumpsuit.
