UPDATE: It is with profound sadness to report the following just announced on the LAFPOLI Facebook page:

"It is with such great sadness that we report that missing dog Yuri, who was swept into floodwaters at Southard Pond, yesterday, 8-13-14, has been found deceased. His body was discovered this morning off Carll's River south of Montauk Highway. Words cannot express our deepest sympathy or the heartache we feel at Yuri's loss, and we are certain that the thousands of you that responded to his lost post on LAFPOLI, join us in sending condolences to his family, who searched for him until morning light."

Yuri, a 120 pound black Russian terrier belonging to John and Kristen Kelly was swept away by flood waters on Wednesday in the Carlls River in West Babylon as the dog stepped in to take a drink of water reported Newsday.com. Yuri was on a leash when:

"He was just going to get a drink of water, but then he took one more step and just fell right in," stated John Kelly.

A Facebook page, Lost and Found Pets of Long Island Community is now chronicling Yuri's search and helping friends, strangers and authorities find the dog. The search began at Southards Pond and Argyle Lake in Babylon and south down the Carlls River. Yuri was last spotted at noon paddling above the water as he traveled under a bridge at Park Avenue.

Kristen is a dog groomer and brings Yuri, along with the family's other three Russian terriers, to work with her everyday; she is utterly devastated:

"It's heartbreaking... we're not giving up, but this is really becoming a recovery mission here right now I don't think I'm getting my wife out of here anytime soon. She's determined to find his body, dead or alive," stated John.

A spark of hope arose late Wednesday night when a Facebook post announced:

"YURI SIGHTING/UPDATE!!!

It has been brought to the family's attention that a man believes he spotted Yuri between 2:00-3:00pm on foot at Park Avenue and N. Carll in Babylon village!

They are still searching and will be heading to the area tomorrow morning as well and need help with flyers if anyone can lend a hand and has some free time!
NOTE: From what we understand and are being told, the area is still flooded....anyone partaking in any search efforts should proceed with caution."

Let's hope that Yuri is found alive. Yuri is microchipped.
