Long Creek Falls can be reached either by kayaking down the Chattooga, or enjoying a 1.6 mile trek through the South Carolina wilderness. This falls serves as a landmark for many boaters traveling down the Chattooga River. Just beyond this falls is a series of rapids considered one of the most difficult along the Chattooga. This section consists of class V rapids, which are located along the final boating section of the river.
If hiking, this 50ft waterfall can be reached after an approximately 45 minutes on the trail. The hike is very pleasant and well worth the trek. The majority of the trail follows through a white pine/ hardwood forest. The path is fairly flat and goes along the main trail for about a mile before turning down a steep spur trail. This vertical climb will need to be taken to reach the base of the falls. Caution should be heeded along the descent do to the loose earth. There is plenty of rhododendron hugging the trailside. These small trees are loosely rooted, so they should not be used as any type of support while climbing down to the falls.
Long Creek Falls is a great destination or stop for any type of outdoor enthusiast. I would highly recommend this moderate hike, it is well worth the adventure.
