Lone Star Park’s Kentucky Derby Day and Hat Contest

Catch the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday, May 4 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. As one of the most thrilling sporting events, it’s an experience not to be missed.

Post time for the Kentucky Derby is set for approximately 5:24 p.m. (CST), but from noon to 4 p.m. you can enjoy live music from Big Mouth on the Courtyard of Champions Stage. There will also be a hat contest, so don your favorite derby hat for a chance to win. Judging begins at 3 p.m. in the Saddling Paddock with “The Most Stylish” and “The Most Creative” Kentucky Derby Hats winning $500. An “Honorable Mention” will go to the three runners up.

Come watch the fastest two minutes in sports to find out which of the 20 thoroughbreds will win the garland of roses - and don’t forget your Derby Hat! Reservations can be made by calling (972) 263-PONY, Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

1)Prizewinners will be determined in the following manner: All contestants interested in participating in the Kentucky Derby Best Hat Contest must report to the Saddling Paddock by the 3:00 p.m. CDT entry deadline on Saturday, May 4, 2013. At 3:00 p.m. CDT, ten (10) finalists will be chosen by the Promotions Department/Official Judges from all of the participating contestants. The ten (10) finalists will be brought to the Winner’s Circle prior to the Kentucky Derby and our panel of judges will vote for Lone Star Park’s Most Creative Hat, Most Stylish Hat and three (3) Honorable Mentions. The person chosen for Most Creative Hat and Most Stylish Hat will each win $500 cash. Honorable Mention winners will receive a “Day at the Races” prize package including a box seat for four (4) on a mutually agreed upon 2013 live race day at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie. Liability for any and all Federal, State and Local taxes rests solely with the prizewinners. Winners must sign an Official Affidavit form, confirming compliance with the Official Rules and Regulations of this Contest. 2) Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, through its management, reserves the right to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to this event, without claim for damages or recourse of any kind. 3) All questions not covered in these Official Rules and Regulations will be decided by the management of Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, its decision to be final. Lone Star Park reserves the right to modify the Official Rules and Regulations at any time without prior notice. 4) The following persons are ineligible to participate in the Kentucky Derby Best Hat Contest: Employees of Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, Global Gaming Solutions and its advertising agencies – The Buzzell Company, Ackerman McQueen, MDVC, MGM Printing Company and Foster/Ball Creative; members of the media; Employees of the Texas Racing Commission; any members of the immediate families of the foregoing* (approved immediate family members of Horsemen are eligible); any individual admitted to Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie free of charge due to employment on Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie property. 5) Lone Star Park reserves the right to modify the Official Rules and Regulations at any time without prior notice.
