Are you following the lone grey wolf named Journey who walked to California from Idaho? Mainstream media is tracking the two-year old male wolf that walked from Idaho to N. California. He even has his own website. See, the L.A. Times article, "California wolf is named 'Journey,' photo released."
The State of California is not intentionally reintroducing wolves. Gray wolves pose little direct risk to humans. Any wolf that enters California is protected as endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act.

According to this Dept. of Fish and Game news article, the gray wolf (now named Journey) that was wandering in southern Oregon has crossed the California border. According to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) this animal is a 2 ½ year old male formerly from a pack in northeast Oregon.
In the near future DFG expects to add information to its website, DFG to provide extensive information on wolves to the public. The wolf will have his own website information. DFG officials are being educated about wolves, a dialogue is continuing with the Oregon tracking station, and management issues are being discussed. Information also is available on the department website.
The conservation group Oregon Wild thought he deserved a more personal name and launched a children’s contest that drew entries from around the globe. The winner, picked in online voting and announced a few weeks ago, was submitted by two different entrants, a 7-year-old from Mountain Home, Idaho, and an 11-year-old from Dickinson, N.D.See the L.A.
