Logging on from Golden Princess: Day 5: dining delights (Photos)

It’s Monday morning and the Golden Princess just pulled into Hilo, Hawaii, the first port of this two-week round-trip cruise from Los Angeles to Hawaii. It’s great to see land after five days at sea.

We’ve pretty much got our sea legs, shipboard orientation, and appetites in gear. We are in a delightful dining routine with breakfast in Sabatini’s, lunch in the buffet-style Horizon Court and dinners alternating between Sabatini’s, Crown Grill and one of the dining rooms, but we’re pretty much sticking to the former which are the finer dining venues with an added fee of $25 a person. After all, we are celebrating a birthday (mine) and anniversary (ours) during this voyage.

The Crown Grill certainly fit the bill last night. We dined in a cozy booth on Tiger shrimp, beet and goat cheese salad, two prime porterhouse steaks (one each), a bottle of fine Zinfandel and a diving dessert sampler. Everything came up roses. The service and food were exceptional. It’s a romantic, intimate room where you are encouraged to enjoy a leisurely paced meal, and we did.

Now our only dilemma is choosing between Sabatini’s and Crown Grill for our anniversary on March 23. It’s a hard life indeed.

By the way, the Golden Princess has three more Los Angles to Hawaii cruises scheduled for March 27, April 10 and April 24 of this year. This one is sold out so you better hurry as this is a very popular route especially with Californians.
