Lockout flies under the radar

The teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi actioneer, Lockout, has been released this week. It stars Guy Pearce as a man who was wrongly convicted of a crime and in order to gain his freedom he must rescue the President’s daughter from a space prison that has been overtaken by the inmates. If this sounds familiar that’s because it is. It similar to John carpenter’s Escape from New York and Neil Marshall’s Doomsday and is being dubbed as “Taken in space.” This makes sense as it was written by French action cinema pioneer, Luc Besson, who also wrote the aforementioned Taken.

Lockout also stars Peter Stormare, Taken’s Maggie Grace and is being helmed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger. Lockout has flown largely under the radar due to the slew of sequels and tentpole movies set to come out in 2012. Yet, judging from the trailer, and ignoring the cheapish special effects, this could be one of the most entertaining films of next year. Audiences also might be treated to the next big screen badass, ala Snake Plissken, if Guy Pearce’s character is as big of a badass as he is a smartass.

The trailer can bee seen here.
