Locals band together: Japan Relief show to take place this Sunday

After the devastating tragedy resulting from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan last month, there have been several events througout the city to help raise money to contribute to relief. In addition to the slew of bake sales and auctions, local musicians have been banding together for benefit shows, compilation albums, and other charitable efforts. Inspired by an e-mail from Shinji Masuko (DMBQ, The Boredoms), this Sunday, April 10, the Smell will host an all-day benefit show presented by cLAy TV (LA-based band Batwings Catwings) in conjunction with The Boredoms, DMBQ, The Smell, and Panache Booking

The event will feature musical performances from Big Business, 400 Blows, Foot Village, Skull Tape, Moses Campbell, and Batwings Catwings. There will also be a special appearance from the Japanese performance art group SPOBRA and music from DJ Jacob Safari (from Wavves). The suggested admission price is $10 (cash only), but everyone is encouraged to give as much as they can.

If you are interested in contributing to this cause but are unable to attend the show, please donate to the relief fund set up by DMBQ. You can send funs via Paypal to:  dmbq@dmbq.net . Proceeds will also help benefit the Japan Chernobyl Foundation and the JOICFP, which supports women and pregnant mothers in disaster areas.

Doors for the event are scheduled to open at 2:30PM with performances beginning shortly after. Event coordinators advice that people arrive early to guarantee entry, as this show is predicted to sell out quickly. Vegan food items will be on sale inside the venue. The Smell is located at 247 South Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. www.thesmell.org
