Local yoga classes speed recovery from holiday stress

If you need to unwind or “detox” after all the holiday festivities, a couple of local yoga classes may be of help. These two occur the Saturday and Sunday after Christmas for those in need.

A yoga breathing class will be taught by hatha yoga teacher Jane Houck December 27 from noon to 1:15 at the Yoga Center at Raintree Athletic Club (formerly the Pulse) in Fort Collins. The class is designed to help you destress and relax. Houck will bring visual illustrations of anatomy and teach you the basics of yoga breathing then walk you through the process so that you become more skilled in it.

Houck brings 15 years of yoga teaching experience and several years of studies in yoga therapy to her class. She teaches monthly workshops at the Yoga Center at Raintree Athletic Club. The class is open to beginners as well as experienced yoga practitioners. The cost is $12. For more information, call Houck at 232-4145.

If you feel the need to get moving and sweat a little you may want to attend a class with Christi Sullivan at Loveland Yoga and Core Fitness. Sullivan, the owner of the studio, teaches a 9:15 detox class December 26 which focuses on vinyasa (a flowing style of yoga emphasizing linking poses and moving with the breath). The class is done in a room heated to 90 degrees.

Sullivan has been teaching yoga and aerobics for several years, and she is also a personal trainer. Her studio opened this summer. A day pass to Loveland Yoga and Core Fitness is $10. For more information see www.lovelandyogacorefitness.com.
