Local Valentine's weekend events

For many, Thursday is pay day, and with pay day, the frivolous weekend spending and outings can commence. I'm sure you've heard (or seen if you've stepped into a grocery store lately) that the Valentine weekend is upon us, and red and pink are out in full force. There are so many themed events in town that I had a hard time picking favorites to focus on, but these are my top suggestions.

No Strings Attached

If you don't have a date planned, but still want to have fun, Masquerade is hosting a Valentine's party in combination with regular Thursday night Old Wave and Bootyshake. No Strings Attached, billed as "romance without the baggage" begins tonight at 10PM. With free condoms and prize giveaways, if you don't come away from the night with a kiss or a phone number, you surely won't leave empty handed.

Prom Night
Relive the glory (or gory) days of prom at Be Mine Vintage Valentine's Prom, taking place at the Highland Inn Ballroom Lounge Saturday night at 9PM. There will be DJ's, a photo booth, kissing booth and raffle prizes. Vintage attire is encouraged, and any party wear purchased at Clothing Warehouse or Vacation scores you a 2-for-1 for prom tickets, regularly $7 per person.

If pizza with your prom sounds a bit more enticing, head on over to Jack's Pizza and Wings. The party begins at 9PM on Saturday, with hunch punch, door prizes, and some mouthwatering snacks.

Intellectual Stimulation
Georgia Aquarium presents Motions of the Oceans, a Lecture and Dinner, beginning Friday at 7:30PM and culminating in a sleepover, if you choose. Tickets include a reception, dinner catered by Wolfgang Puck, and educational lessons about the mating rituatls of marine animals. Don't snooze too soon, as the sleepover portion of the events includes behind-the-scenes tours and a morning breakfast.. Sleeping spaces are prepared in the galleries, alongside your favorite ocean critters. Tickets range from $80-$160; call 404-581-4000 for purchase.

All Weekend Long
McCormick and Schmick's Seafodd Restaurants will not only be offering a delicious Valentine’s Day menu (creme brulee!) all weekend long, but any guest that makes a Valentine’s Day reservation will also be offered the “above and beyond” service, including roses and a personalized notecard or menu at arrival.

Lastly, nothing says romance like swordfights. Medieval Times is holding dinner shows Friday through Sunday, offering a Valentine's package for couples that includes photos, champagne, and two tickets to the Museum of Torture (swoon?). Extended packages are available for an additional cost. Reservations can be made, however the Valentine's package is available upon arrival for tickets purchased at the gate.
