Kanawha Obedience Training Club will host its annual Obedience and Rally trial on June 2nd and 3rd at the Dunbar Recreation Center. This trial event is an opportunity for owners and canines to realize the rewards of hours of effort in working as a team to accomplish tasks such as heeling, retrieving objects, scent determination, and directed jumping. http://www.akc.org/events/obedience/

Visitors will travel from many neighboring states to compete in this AKC event. Any dog registered with the AKC is able to participate. The AKC Canine Partners program allows mixed breed dogs to become eligible to compete in these types of events. http://www.akc.org/mixedbreeds/index.cfm?nav_area=mixedbreeds

KOTC welcomes mixed breed dogs to this event. Registration for this event closes Wednesday May 16, 2012. Information on entering the trial can be found on the club’s Facebook page.

Spectators are encouraged to stop in and observe the event. Club members will be available to answer any questions about training activities and how to get involved in training and competition. Dogs not entered in the trial should not be inside the gym while the trial is being held.

Many companion canines enjoy positive reward based training. These types of activities will strengthen the bond between owner and canine, while improving the mental and physical well-being of the pet.
