People to People, a youth Ambassador program started more than 50 years ago will start student interviews in Easley, SC at the end of September to see who will qualify to head to Australia in June 2013. Students who apply to become a youth ambassador must fill out an application, have three adult references, attend an interview and raise the almost $8000 to attend the trip.
In exchange, they get to spend 20 days in Australia learning about the culture and doing exciting activities. They will spend some time in Sydney and get to walk across the top of the bridge! They will visit an Aboriginal tribe and learn to throw a boomerang. One night will be spent sleeping in the aquarium. The highlight of the trip will be meeting marine biologists, feeding wild dolphins and snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef!
Only 40 students from the upstate will be chosen for the Australia Adventure trip. This Australia trip is for students in high school, but there are other trips for the younger students too.
If you know a student who is selected to attend, please consider making a donation to their trip expenses. They will spend part of their time doing travel journals, community service projects and on-line lessons making this a true learning experience.
