Although it is only week four of the prep gridiron season, several local teams have crucial games looming this Friday night. Each hopes a win will help set the stage for bigger things to come.
The Richwoods Knights hope to even their record at 2-2 with a win over visiting Galesburg and start a winning run to season's end. This will be no small task. The Silver Streaks program has been on the rise the past couple of years and they bring a balanced attack to Endres Field. Signal caller Peyton Isaacson completed 13 of 19 passes for 163 yards last week in a win over United Township and rushed for 48 more. Junior running back Ben Holloway eclipsed the 100 yard mark as well. The Knights run game picked up mightily last week due in large part to 251 yards from Kiontre O'Neal and they hope this continues so as to take some pressure off Max Berres and the passing game.
Central and Notre Dame will face off in what should be an epic battle. Central is 3-0 and can surge out in front of the Mid State 6 with a victory. Notre Dame, despite extremely high expectations to start the season, now stands at 1-2 after tough losses to Quincy and Alleman. They are desperately looking to knock off Orlando Hernandez and the Lions.
Over in the Mid Illini, Washington will travel to Dunlap in a classic match up of powerful offense against mighty defense. Surprising Dunlap has been putting up pro-type numbers on offense while Washington's defense has been more than stingy to say the least. It's anybody's guess as to who will prevail in this one. The winner will be on top of the conference, but will have several good teams still nipping at their heels the rest of the way. Metamora at East Peoria and Morton at Pekin are also big games as each team needs a win to stay in the race.
All in all, it looks like a fantastic week of action ahead.
