Local summit for craftspeople teaches marketing and selling your work

Are you interested in making crafts, and want to know more about it as a business? Hello Craft is sponsoring a local “Summit of Awesome," lasting three days and featuring dozens of speakers who can help you learn more about making and selling your handcrafts. This is an annual event, which is held in a different U.S. city each year.

The summit takes place Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the 1840s Ballroom, 29 South Front Street in Baltimore. Each day is divided into roughly hour-long sessions, during which multiple opportunities are offered for learning and making crafts.

Attendees can get instruction from local craftspeople in a workshop setting, or listen to talks on subjects such as pricing, applying to crafts shows, and ways to get out the word about your creative business. Etsy seller education lead Danielle Maveal offers critiques to those attending who currently have Etsy shops online and want to improve them.

Just for fun, a “crafty throwdown” will ensue, with participants picking themes from a hat and creating craft items within a 15-20 minute window using supplies that are provided. Prizes will be awarded for those voted best in the contest.

Currently, passes are available for one, two or all three days of the Summit of Awesome, and can be purchased online at HelloCraft.  A complete schedule and more information is listed on the site, where you can also find out about becoming a permanent member of the organization.
