Local riders can enjoy an intimate view of the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event

Although a few talented southern California riders got to actually ride in the Rolex Three Day Event in Lexington, Kentucky, most eventers can only imagine what it’s like. Now, thanks to Peter Atkins, his horse, Henry, and the magic of helmet cam, anyone can experience the thrill of running the cross-country course at the famous Kentucky Horse Park.

Atkins and his 8 year-old Selle Francais gelding were in 50th place after dressage but ultimately moved up to finish at 23rd, with just a few time penalties and on rail. Despite a troubled past as a show hunter, Henry is incredibly brave across country, as evidenced by the pairs’ smooth ride at RK3D. On his website, the rider admits, “Jimmy Wofford's comment in his Rolex preview, as always was very accurate, "this pair is a year away from a polished performance at this level." I'm working on halving his prediction and have the dressage polished by Fair Hill.”

On a side note, the Florida-based Australian rider was also named the best-dressed man in the Dubarry Style Awards, contested during the first trot-up for the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event.
