Diva, the stolen Yorkshire terrier
Diva, a Yorkshire terrier that was the beloved companion of a group of Autistic children, was stolen from the Northeast Dallas group home where they live last Thursday. Local shelters and rescue groups are hoping to spot the dog, who was taken from the home, which is run by Autism Treatment Center, during a daring daylight robbery. Diva was the long-time companion of the group home's manager and a friend to all the children.
Children with autism find it hard to deal with change. Even ordinary daily transitions are challenging, such as going from home to school and back home again. The loss of a pet can be particularly difficult. According to Dr. Carolyn Garver, Director of Autism Treatment Center, the children really miss Diva and miss playing with her.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Diva should call 9-1-1 or contact the Autism Treatment Center at 972-644-2076.
