Voting day is finally here for the 2010 Midterm Elections, and local residents are turning in mixed results for major political parties.
A local poll in north Orange County, specifically in the cities of Brea and La Habra, indicate residents are anxiously participating in an election and making choices to improve their prospects for economic stability.
A survey of 19 residents showed Republicans and Democrats are voting in similar numbers: 9 Republicans, 7 Democrats, and 3 American Independents.
It was divided equally for both Democrats and Republicans among voters who voted strictly along party lines, as for those who did not. The 3 Independents polled indicated they did not vote strictly for their party’s candidates or in strict accordance with their party.
All three political parties polled therefore produced mixed results in their voting for candidates and measures.
The local poll predicts a mixed bag of results for Democrats and Republicans with no clear indicators for early gains among the major political parties. When asked about the Tea Party movement, 4 Republicans, 1 Democrat, and 1 American Independent had a favorable opinion, while 3 Republicans, 1 Democrat, and 2 American Independents had no comment or weren’t familiar with the political group. Those who found the Tea Party unfavorable were 4 Democrats and 2 Republicans.
A few respondents complained the midterm ballot measures required more time to interpret, making it difficult to make choices. According to the voters, some of the measure even seemed contradictory. However, voter turnout did not indicate any discouragement as the lines remained long at the booths.
Surprisingly, one third of the respondents weren’t familiar with the Tea Party movement or didn’t understand the party’s political objectives, but seemed interested.
All but one of the respondents said they came prepared and did not deviate from their voting decisions at the polling booth.
The local survey predicts a strong voter turnout by Republicans and Democrats with mixed results for candidates from both parties. The Orange County poll indicates that the midterm races remain tight.
