Local part-time coach arrested for inappropriate relationship with a student

State police arrested Cassandra Elfers, 21, on Friday and charged her with one count of first-degree sexual abuse involving a minor.

Elfers was held in the Kenton County Detention Center until she posted bond Friday evening.

Police have charged her with a statute that forbids someone with supervisory powers such as a coach or teacher to have sexual relations with students under 18.

Elfers worked as a part-time assistant volleyball coach for Sharp Middle School in Pendleton County.

On January 13th, school administration became aware of a rumor involving an inappropriate relationship involving a part-time coach and a student. The rumor prompted administrators to start an investigation.

Officials sent their findings to the Kentucky State Police.

Attorney Eric Deters will represent Elfers.

Deters is known for representing former Bengals cheerleader Sarah Jones. Deters has said his client didn’t have a sexual relationship with the child or send any inappropriate photographs.

Police continue to investigate the allegation.
