Wednesday, local non-profit organization Dreamcatchers for Abused Children officially announced their new event coordinator Mrs. Kristin Hartway via Facebook.

Hartway is a devoted wife and mother, and has been advocating for the rights of children for the last decade. Hartway is no stranger to the Dreamcatchers organization. She has volunteered within the organization for several years; making a huge impact for her hard work and dedication to children. Hartway has many plans for Dreamcatchers in 2014 and she is extremely "excited" to be representing the small non-profit.

It's hard to rationalize, but child abuse statistics are high; estimating 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be molested by the age of 18. Every 10 seconds a child is abused and, today alone, 5 children will die from abuse or neglect. Currently there are 60 million survivors of child sexual abuse.

Statistics also show 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, 85% of victims are women, a domestic violence act occurs every 15 seconds, translating into over 2.5 million victims per year. Sadly, these statistics are increasing daily.

Dreamcatchers for Abused Children is an official non-profit 501(c)3 child abuse and neglect organization dedicated to educating the public. Their goal is to lower child abuse statistics by educating the public on every aspect of child abuse through successful campaigns, community outreach programs, educational materials and literature. Dreamcatchers is Michigan's largest child abuse education and resource center.
