News and commentary by J. P. Biddle

BeX is back! Super-Bowl Sunday stabbing occurs.

Aundre Goins – was stabbed in front of Bex while trying to break up a fight by a supposed 18th street gang member and had to have emergency surgery because of it. The driver took off. The license plate was 4JTN208. Authorities are still searching for the culprit.

There goes Lancaster’s “crime is down” stats. And King Rex still claims that Lancaster is safe.

Any indication that the economy is bouncing back was dashed when Desert Haven reduced worker’s salary by 5%. It should be noted here that they are non-union. Administrators didn’t call back with any comment after numerous attempts were made to give them the opportunity to do so.

I guess since the worker’s are disabled why not screw them over, after all, it’s not like they are gonna fight back or anything.

Hello, SEIU are you listening?

I bet administrators didn’t take any pay cuts.

Palmdale settles its Section 8 lawsuit. The downside of that is that officials from Santa Clarita, upon hearing that bit of news, now want to ship their Section 8 folks to Palmdale.

It’s gonna get quite crowded on those Metrolink trains, what with all the Section 8, welfare recipients, and homeless that Mayor Tony from LA sends up here.

On top of that, Santa Clarita Mayor Laurie Ender stated recently that she would like to send all the Section 8 residents to Palmdale.

On top of that, you will have all those so called “non violent’ parolee’s on their way up here (there will be a moment to smirk at that. ‘Non-violent’ my ass. Who the hell are they trying to fool here?)

A recent patient from AVH reports that the place is a filthy dump. The waiting room is filled with sick illegal’s with sick snotty-nosed kids running amok in the waiting room.

If you weren’t sick prior to getting there, you will be the time you leave.

If you have an emergency and they are going to take you to the ER at AVH, request to go elsewhere. If they can’t comply, just have them pull the plug right then and there.

THE RUMOR MILL

Restaurants on ‘Da BLVD’ should be doing well. Word from inside sources tells us that City Hall workers have been ‘encouraged’ to eat lunch on ‘Da BLVD’.  As if that’s not bad enough, they were told they must walk there! I guess that’s to give the impression that business is booming and it’s not just transients that walk ‘Da BLVD.’

However, I haven’t seen King Rex walking ‘Da BLVD’ at lunch (unless, of course, there were TV cameras present.) Oh, wait, he’s afraid of being assaulted by the dangerous duo of David G. and David A. I guess he’s afraid that his entourage (sheriff’s deputies and his ever-present staff of body guards) might not be able to protect him.

MORE GRIST FOR THE RUMOR MILL

Word from my inside source claims that due to budget crisis, Lancaster has cut back on their contract with LA County Sheriff’s Dept for contract services. What this means is a few less cars on the street.

So who’s going to protect us from all these ‘non-violent’ parolee’s being released up here? Unless you’re a personal friend of King Rex (or Lee Baca), you forget about getting a concealed weapons permit.

LancasterCityCouncil approves waste conversion facility.

Without any hearings or the filing of an EIR (that I am aware of) the council voted to approve this project.

This project is being run by Tim Fuller.

Tim Fuller (friend of Parris) owns 5 Star Auto Repair. No bid contract.

What surprises me (besides their hypocrisy) is any lack of public hearings or an EIR. Where’s the public outcry? Nothing, nada, zip, zero!

I think the good folks in Lancaster have just rolled over.

How long until you have trash trucks from LA coming up here? And they complained about Palmdale’s gas-fired power plant that will emit a harmless steam plume a couple times a year!!!!!!!!!!!

What a load! This is a boondoggle if ever there was one. Plus, whatever happened to that ‘Blue Flame’ (or whatever it was called) that was going to be developed by the landfill? That was pretty much the same kind of deal and it ultimately fell by the wayside.

I really smell a rat on this deal (if you live anywhere near the site of this proposed scam, you will be smelling a lot worse odors.)

TOWN COUNCIL NEWS

QUARTZ HILL

Attendance is up. That’s good. But, still only about a dozen or so residents showed up. Come on folks, this is YOUR community. Ya think you could show up and find out what’s going on. The average meeting lasts around 90 minutes. It’s the 3rd Tues of the month at the community room at Lane Park (corner of 55th West and L-8).

**

The Community Standards has finally been completed and will be turned over to the County for the long (and arduous) review and approval process. It will come back for public review a few more times before final approval by LA County (this is just one reason YOU should be attending Town Council meetings),

**

The storm drain process is well underway and on schedule. Residents who have been affected by the project seem very happy as to how the work is being handled. So far (keep your fingers crossed) this has been a model process on how things should be done.

**

The COPS (Community Originated Policing (or something to that affect)) has been expanded to deal with problems in the unincorporated areas of the county. They will be spending the next 90 days in the east AV and Acton to deal with a rash of burglaries. They will then move westward.

Overall crime is down. The one exception is burglaries. Rest assured, the Sheriff’s Department is on the job dealing with it. If you want to review the crime stats, aim your browser to www.crimestoppers.com.

Overall, I would say that the Town Council has made a turnaround from the past several and are doing a good job. At this minute there is only one item of concern; there are issues with their website and how it’s being managed. Concerns have been brought foreword by councilmember Pat Hartford as a result of inquiries made by citizens as well as this publication. The matter was AGAIN tabled and will be taken up at the next executive session. This raises a red flag as this should be brought up at a public meeting. I’m not sure why this is being dealt with in an executive session.

To be fair, President Doug Burgis indicated this was to deal with some technical issues and it will be discussed at a public meeting before any action is taken. Hopefully, that is the case and there is NO VOTE taken at the executive session.

**

The Lane Park pool, which is undergoing a huge renovation, should be opening back up by mid-June.

**

Representatives from LA County gave a presentation and held a discussion regarding trash hauling in the unincorporated areas. Currently, there is no exclusive franchise and residents can make their own arrangements with any licensed hauler (at the moment there are only two. Waste Management and Benz).

ANTELOPE ACRES

Reports have been circulating (and verified) that the AA Town Council was offered a large sum (reportedly in the six figures) not to oppose Element Power from constructing several large wind turbines and a solar farm in the far west side of the AV.

Residents have repeated asked Town Council President Vicky Nelson for information regarding this. She refuses to answer any questions. This is disturbing. This is one reason why I have demanded that LA County have some form of certifying process for Town Councils and some form of code of conduct/ethics and accountability.

However, after a public outcry over this type of issue involving more than just the AA Town Council, the Quartz Hill Town Council sent a letter of opposition to the Board of Supervisors who in turn, voted against giving Element a CUP (Conditional Use Permit). According to sources close to Element, they are abandoning the wind turbine part of the project.

It should also be noted (that due to all the controversy surrounding the issuance of cash to Town Councils) that this practice has been halted and to the best of our knowledge, no cash has been awarded any Town Council.  If anybody has heard differently, please contact us at avtowncrier@gmail.com.
