One of the nail industries brightest, rising stars is right here in our own backyard.
Julie Kandalec was recently awarded the winning cover design for NAILS magazine. They were so impressed with her work they did something unprecedented. They actually ran two different covers for the January issue since the voting on the cover tech image was too close to call. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Julie and ask her about her winning ways. Being based in Cleveland Ohio doesn’t stop Julie from pursuing her goals in the fashion industry. She splits her time between Cleveland, LA and New York to share her amazing skills with the world. The cover win was just one of her many credits she has already accomplished in her 13 years in the industry. Julie’s inspiration often times comes from shopping, accessory shopping to be exact. She also watches a lot of fashion/runway shows to see what speaks to her. “Loving what you do is the best motivation.” Kandalac shared. Having a supportive, encouraging boss really helps Julie balance salon work with her print and fashion work. Julie has worked backstage at several New York and LA fashion weeks runway shows preparing the models nails. Taking a two day class in LA with an agency several years back really helped Julie jump start her high fashion nail career. Julie loves the collaboration of working on photo shoots and stretching her talents to achieve the perfect body of work for everyone involved. At her nail table she’s a “Mixer” and loves to mix color to come up with one of a kind shades. Her creative vision for print work carries over into her salon work with an impressive following. If you are looking the very latest trend in nail design give Julie a call at Jennifer and Company in Mentor, Ohio for your very own “cover” look.
