This past weekend, during the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, the United States Pony Club held its annual Prince Philip Cup Mounted Games competition.
Louisville-area Covered Bridge Pony Club is home-base for The Gummi Bears, a team of young, athletic riders who, once again, took home the gold!
The Prince Philip Cup is a national, invitational competition originally designed by England's Prince Philip in 1957. The Cup was brought to the United States in 1985 to promote the advancement of mounted games. Prince Philip's goal was to allow "ordinary children on ordinary ponies" experience the thrill of competition while enhancing horsemanship skills and a comraderie with their teammates.
Mounted Games is the equestrian sport combining fast races with athletic riders and willing ponies. It's such a fun event to watch as they race around poles, gather objects and jump off and on their ponies.
Congrats to The Gummi Bears team of Jackie LeMastus, Sarah Camp, James Bradley, Ashley Johnson and Mary P. Camp and their coaches, Sara and Cassie Greiling!
