Lisa Kagen, owner and business manager of Melt Eclectic Deli in Northside, sent out word this past week that a new market featuring many local and organic foods and more will be opening in May in the spot that once housed Hideaway Restaurant (this building connects to the Northside Tavern).

The new market, Picnic and Pantry, will initially be selling local or organic produce, cheeses, coffees, breads, desserts, humane/drug-free meats and eggs, organic canned goods and more. In addition to these items, Picnic and Pantry will be selling snack foods, non-alcoholic beverages, eco-friendly cleaning products, dried fruits and nuts and pre-packaged foods from the Picnic and Pantry line or from other local sources. For a complete list of foods and products for sale, check out their currently-evolving website.

Future plans for the space include selling Mexican Street Foods throughout the store during hours of operation, then after hours they plan to sell through a window that faces the patio of the Northside Tavern for evening bar-goers. They also plan to offer dinner by reservation only at the market on the weekends as well as Saturday morning cooking classes featuring seasonal foods and specialty products sold at the market.

More updates are coming soon, so keep yourself in the know by becoming a fan of the Picnic and Pantry facebook page.

If you happen to sell local foods and are interested in selling with Picnic and Pantry, send them an email at picnicandpantry@gmail.com to see if they have a need for your products.
