Four women from local NCAA Division III schools were named conference students of the week Sept. 3.
Gallaudet outside hitter Kali Frowick was honored by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) after leading the Bison to a 3-1 record in the Gettysburg College Battlefield. The junior set a career-high of 30 digs and 18 kills in the team’s victory over Mt. St. Mary (N.Y) College. Frowick followed that with recording 18 kills and 15 digs vs. Dickinson College and 16 kills and 15 digs vs. Penn. St.- Altoona.
A pair of soccer players from Catholic University were recognized as the offensive and defensive players of the week by the Landmark Conference.
Forward Lindsay Aleman’s first game was one to remember. The freshman flew from the nest to give a spark to the Cardinals, scoring twice on two shots. Aleman wrapped up with an assist on the final goal of the game to lead Catholic to a 4-0 victory over Frostburg State.
Goalkeeper Lexi Halperin notched six saves in the season opening shutout of FSU. She anchored a defense that held 2012 All-American Adria Graham to just one shot for the game as Catholic earned the 4-0 win.
Marymount’s Melissa Teeple was selected as the first Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Player of the Week for the 2013 season. She finished Salisbury’s Winterplace Park 6-K course in less than 24 minutes which was good for 12th overall and first among CAC runners.
