Since 2008, Somerville Local First has worked hard to build a sense of community among local business, and to foster an excitement in local consumers. During the Christmas season of 2012, Somerville Local First held its first Local is for Lovers market, putting dozens of local vendors in one place where patrons doing their holiday shopping could find their favorite items and discover new ones. The event was such a success that the next year it grew to include four holiday markets in 2013. This year, just in time for spring, the Local is for Lovers Mother’s Day Market will feature plenty of gifts for the mothers in your life.
The Market will feature several vendors of skin card product. Stop at the Somerville Soap Works booth for some handmade soaps in unique fragrances. Always made without palm oil, corn oil, parabens, or sulfates, Somerville Soap Works soaps provide an environmentally sustainable way to care for your skin.
If jewelry and accessories are what you’re looking for, check out vendors such as Mulxiply, a Boston-based supplier of fair trade jewelry made in modern styles using traditional materials and techniques. A certified Fair Trade company, a livable wage and ethical treatment of the people who craft the items is a top priority, and the non-industrial processes used to create these items has a minimal impact on natural resources.
Other local and green thinking companies you will find at Local is for Lovers Mother’s Day Market include Zipcar, everyone’s favorite car sharing enterprise, and Next Step Living, a company dedicated to making your home more energy efficient, which saves resources and reduces your electricity bill.
You can find all these and more at 12A Tyler Street in Somerville from 10:00AM until 3:00PM on Sunday, April 27th. Brooklyn Boulders, a community rock climbing gym, will host the event.
