Yuengling Ice Cream was started by the same family that runs the Pottsville, PA brewery; although the two companies were run separately and no longer affiliated. The company began in 1920 and went out of business in 1989. The ice cream production was was originally started to help the family through the hard times brought on by "prohibition".

In March of 2013, David Yuengling, cousin of Richard Yuengling, who runs the brewery operations, announced it was back in business. The response was so great, that production was doubled for the relaunch scheduled in mid-February.

The ice cream will be made at Leiby's Dairy in Tamaqua, with the ten available flavors being sold at Weis, Acme, and other select grocery locations throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and West Virginia.

!00,000 quarts of vanilla, chocolate, chocolate chip, espresso chocolate chip, chocolate fudge brownie, chocolate marshmallow, mint chocolate chip, vanilla fudge chunk, root beer, and black & tan (chocolate and caramel); ranging in price from $6.49 and $5.99 will be available on store shelves shortly.
