Local humanist and atheist groups to celebrate Darwin's birthday

The MS Gulf Coast Humanists and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Atheist and Freethinking Association will celebrate the birthday of Charles Darwin (b. Feb. 12, 1809) this Sunday, Feb. 10, at Harmony Hall, 2514 19th Ave., Gulfport. The celebration will start at 3 p.m. with a talk by Dr. Brian Axsmith, professor of Biology at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Axsmith's research and teaching interests include paleobotany and evolution. He will talk on his latest research in paleobotany and how it relates to evolution theory.

The talk will be followed by a potluck dinner at 5 p.m. The celebration is open to the public.
