Heritage Park in Euless, Texas is open the second Saturday of each month. Guests can tour the Fuller House, the first brick home in Euless which is now a museum; the Himes Log House, built in the 1850s; and the McCormick Barn, built in 1919.
This month, there is a new addition that pays tribute to a piece of Euless history. Local historians have recreated the original Euless post office inside the museum.
The special exhibit pays tribute to Robert Nail, who became Euless postmaster in 1949 and held that position for about 30 years. Nail was partner in a market with members of the Fuller family, and Nail ran the post office out of the store until 1954. The post office moved to another Euless location.
Guests who tour the museum Oct. 12 will also see the following as part of the post office exhibit:
- 36 post office boxes installed
- The original Euless Post Office sign
- The original "Mail Sorting Table"
- The original (and only) Euless stamp canceling tool
- A Postal Money Order from every year they were available up to recently
- Nearly every newspaper article written about the Euless Post Office
- Other interesting pieces of Euless Post Office History
The earliest post office in what is now Euless opened in 1857 and it closed in 1868. It opened again from 1886-1910 and a small community called Tarrant also operated a post office. Tarrant eventually became part of Euless. This special exhibit will focus on the years of operation under Robert Nail.
