DC's 6th Annual Love, Locs and Natural Hair Expo presented by Asaze Natural Hair will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 11 am to 7 pm at the Mary Virginia Merrick Center, located on 4275 Sixth Street, SE Washington, DC (across from the parking lot of Saint Thomas Moore Church).
The expo entry fee is $10, which covers all workshops, classes, and a fabulous hair show.
The expo will feature a workshop by natural hair specialist Jamesha Bazemore, who will be educating parents on hair care tips for children and presenting a Sweet Petites Children’s Hair Show, along with Keianna Johnson of KeeKee All Natural, who will also be heading a Kiddie Korner for those who can't find a babysitter or just want the freedom to participate in workshops and shop.
Ansylla of My Hairitage Holistic Hair Care will teach a workshop called "Five Causes of Hair Loss," and the Interlock Braiding Method will be taught by Angela Lewis. There will also be a fashion show, vendors, music and much more.
The lady behind the expo, Tempie Satcher-Ducosin, is a native Washingtonian and natural hair educator who has dedicated her life to inspiring others about the benefits of natural living. Tempie's Asaze Natural Hair Salon is located in Northeast Washington, DC.
DC's Annual Love, Locs and Natural Hair Expo, which is conducted each year on the third Saturday in April, was established because Tempie, who would frequent hair expos in other states, decided that DC needed its own expo.
Her expos focus on educating people how to be natural from "head through toe." Each year she bases the expo around a different theme. This year's theme is "I’ll Always Love My Mama."
"All registered mothers will be honored; we will give them their flowers while they can still smell them. I will surprise my mom with something that she wanted me to do for a long time, so I hope you will be there to see what I will present to my mother," Tempie stated.
