David Julia is a local artist who at the young age of 12 has already secured a weekly performing gig. This guitarist has a bright future ahead. David has a good head on his shoulders, ambition, and plenty of motivation at home and from his teachers. His schoolwork and extra curricular activities keep him busy, but he still finds time to practice and make music. Like so many students, he is learning to find a balance.
The first time David picked up a guitar was at the age of 5. He started performing by the age of 7. “I was self-taught, then went to lessons. My dad and teachers have been great mentors,” notes David. He understands the importance of working hard to achieve goals and improve, and that he can’t do it alone.
Some of David’s biggest influences include some pretty amazing legends. Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Walsh, and Chuck Berry, have all had an impact on his playing and style. When asked what famous musician he would most want to perform with, David answered, “John Mayer. I would have so much fun and learn so much.”
In addition to guitar lessons, David is also taking private voice lessons to improve his vocal technique. He is growing in many areas as a musician, and there is always more that every performer can learn. He is on the right track and the work is sure to pay off. David recommends to other young musicians with similar goals and dreams to keep that end result in mind. “Never give up. You have your ups and downs, but never give up. For those who are learning guitar, at first it is a pain, but with pain comes gain,” advises David.
