While working breeds may span the chart from a tiny Jack Russell terrier to a much larger Belgian Malanois, they all share a few key traits. No matter their size, all are high energy, smart, and do not give up easily.
However, the same characteristics and strong drive that make these breeds perfect for hunting, tracking, and performing police work also can create issues when they become a pet without a job to perform.
The Mid Tennessee Working Dog Rescue was formed to take these often misunderstood dogs and then rehabilitate, sometimes redirect, and ultimately find homes for these animals. It's a wonderful way for knoledgeable performance and working dog owners to give back to the breeds they know well.
A working dog is not the right fit for everyone, so there are a number of steps adopters must take to qualify to adopt.
"Our organization's intention is for every dog in our program to have the opportunity to meet a family that will be suitable for their temperment and energy level. Therefore, it is our ultiimate goal to make it more appealing to seek out a rescue dog than to purchase a puppy from a breeder."
A typical adoption fee is around $175 in the form of a donation. Each animal has been microchipped, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and treated for parasites.
If you or anyone you know is looking for a cattle dog, protection dog, or fitness companion, visit the rescue website for more information.
