Local 'Go Red For Women' luncheon meets fund raising goal

It was announced today that the Richmond "Go Red For Women" luncheon, held at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa in Short Pump on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 was successful in raising $100,000, pushing their yearlong campaign fund raising totals over the $500,000 mark.

Chairwoman of the event, Mary Doswell, vice president at Dominion Resources, pointed out that for more than 10 years, women have been fighting individually and together as part of the American Heart Association's "Go Red For Women" movement.

Over 627,000 women's lives have been saved and today, 330 less women are dying each day because of the hard work of volunteers, raising awareness of the signs of heart disease in women.

Doswell went on to thank everyone saying,

“Through the generosity of our Richmond sponsors, volunteers and individuals, we raised an amazing figure that will make a difference for women and their hearts.”

Go Red For Women is sponsored nationally by Macy’s and Merck and in Richmond by Bon Secours For Women and Health Diagnostic Laboratory Inc.

National Walking Day is the next big event coming up on April 3, 2013. The AHA and "Go Red For Women" is asking everyone to slip on their sneakers and take 30 minutes out of their day to get up and walk.

Be sure to ask family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to join in. Sign up at www.startwalkingnow.org/registration.jsp to receive your FREE Tool Kit.
