Ho! Ho! Ho! The holidays are a special time of the year to celebrate blessings with family and friends. It’s also a time to give generously. Organizations helping animals throughout our community rely solely on donations. One such organization is the K9 Services German Shepherd Rescue (K9SGSR) located in Green Cove Springs, FL.
A non-profit organization that rescues German Shepherd Dogs (GSD) from area shelters or owner surrenders, K9SGSR is dedicated to the GSD breed. It is their mission to “rescue, train, rehabilitate, re-home, as many displaced German shepherds from a shelter environment or from an owner surrender agreement.”
The Need is Huge
Mable Sable was a lucky GSD rescued from the Clay County animal shelter. Without K9SGSR, she would not be able to receive proper medical attention. She has bad ear infections and is half deaf, but displays a sweet disposition.
K9SGSR is currently fundraising for basic and medical care costs of the dogs they take into the rescue. They need continued funding support after recently moving to a new property. The new property offers more room for increasing rescue capability, but the organization has faced some financial setbacks recently. After putting up a fence which cost $5,000, a new Roof which cost $4,000, and recently 2 wasps nests that need to be removed.
How you can help!
• Volunteer. The GSD’s love to play and be walked. In mid-January K9SGSR will be implementing a Walk a Shep program. The rescue is located on a property surrounded by a private wildlife reserve park and K9SGSR will have access to the reserve mid-January. The goal is to help the shepherds become more acclimated on a leash and give volunteers an opportunity to enjoy pristine nature. If you are interested in volunteering, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and put volunteer in the subject line.
• Donations of resources, along with cash, are always accepted. Gift cards, cash, or services will help this growing organization continue to rescue dogs like Sable Mable. Financial contributions can be made via a secure PayPal button at www.k-9servcies.net.
• Adopt don’t shop. If you are thinking of adding a GSD to your home seek adoption as the first option.
Take time this holiday season to get to know organizations needing support in your local community. You’re one a click away from providing needed funds to canines left without a home for the holidays. Help K9SGSR continue to provide love and care to deserving canine companions.
