Local film college competition CinemaSlam to announce winners Thursday

Just when you thought awards season was over, the 30th Annual Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) gets underway again with the film school competition, CinemaSlam. On Feb 28, CinemaSlam will announce the winners to their 2013 film competition in an event that is apart of Festival Florida's Focus program. This year it will feature nine short films from Miami Dade College, Miami International University, New World School of the Arts and the University of Miami.

There will be seven awards given out based on categories, which include Best Comedy, Best Drama, Best Experimental, Documentary or Animation, Best Technical Achievement, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director. The participants are all vying for the top prize and the winners will receive The Sarah Fuller scholarship, $500 from Film Florida, an artisan award from local artist Robert McKnight, a custom 1-year download membership to VideoBlocks, a full set (57 videos) of footage video courtesy of Footage Firm and an all-access pass to the MIFF.

The night winds down with a screening of the films at O Cinema. Tickets are no longer available to this event but for those who have already purchased tickets, the event starts at 7 p.m. The MIFF runs from Mar. 1st to Mar. 10th.
