As of 2013, Allen County has an estimated 116,000 feral cats. This has been a long standing problem in the comunity and a coalition between the City of Lima and The Humane Society of Allen County are putting forth an effort to deal with the issues locally.
Recently, City Council's Neighborhood Concerns Committee and Mr. Michael Ley of the Humane Society met to focus on this problem. The first focus will be in the city, because Ley believes it is essential to start small and succeed with the program before addressing the entire county. As resources become available, it could be an entire county program.
With the help of $10,000 seed money from the City, the Humane Society will apply for additional resources to continue the program.
If you would like to make a donation, or how you can help in this program, please contact Mr. Ley at The Humane Society of Allen County, telephone 419-991-1775.
