Last month when two budding local entrepreneurs were cleaning out the basement in their Lower Macungie home they encountered a problem, or an opportunity depending on how you look at it; disposing of old electronics. Michael and Dory Morris needed to rent to Waste Management’s “Dumpster in a Bag”, fill it and then search around for places that performed electronic disposable at a reasonable price.
As of Jan. 24, PA landfills no longer accept any electronic material, causing the Morris’s plenty of angst attempting to find a Lehigh Valley center that would accept their large amount of waste. Much to their chagrin they could not find a reasonable priced center nearby, but they did locate Responsible Recycling Services in Kutztown.
For this enterprising couple the lights went on; electronic waste collection was necessary for the Lehigh Valley, and MDE Pickup LLC was born. The newly formed company serves much of the Lehigh Valley and Kutztown, home of its preferred recycling center.
The company picks up electronics on Monday and a call to their customer service can schedule disposable services on any other day of the week. Additional events will be held with local municipalities, allowing residents in that to drop off their old electronic equipment at designated locations.
Michael and Dory are hoping that the convenience of a pickup-service will be that unique trait of their business makes the difference. Every other recycling center makes you come to them, MDE is hoping that their niche of 'catering to you' will set them apart from others.
