Local Designer is fashion forward in Plus Size Market

According to ABC News, the average American Woman is a size 14. In the high fashion industry, this qualifies as “plus size”. And while the consumer is growing, so is the full-figured fashion market, which is said to have grossed 17 billion in sales in 2011.

Fashion forward retailers, buyers and high fashion designers are already on board with the large and lucrative industry and are clamoring to stake their place in the full figured market.

New York City is the home of the prestigious Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and Couture Fashion Week, as well as many other emerging “haute” fashion events, is now hosting Full Figured Fashion Week,

Gwendolyn DeVoe, founder of DeVoe Signature Events, and producer of Full Figured Fashion Week, has found a way to cater to the plus size market and bring the industry insiders into the full figured frenzy. Offering exclusive opportunities to top fashion bloggers to cover and publicize the event, as well as touring the entire county with media campaigns surrounding their now, widely popular, model search, Full Figured Fashion Week, scheduled for June 16-21, 2014, promises to be the best ever in the sixth year of runway shows. Local full-figured models are preparing for the Dallas/Fort Worth model search, which will be held on March 8 at Studio 92 in Dallas.

In an interview with Mark541 Radio, a local interactive radio show and magazine that caters to creative entrepreneurs, about the 2013 event, DeVoe said she had attended various fashion week shows but being a full-figured woman, she knew she would never be able to wear the garments being presented on the runway. So she decided to produce an event that would cater to this now lucrative marketplace. So, she gathered some fresh and emerging full figured designers and began the journey to dress the average sized woman!

One local Dallas\Fort Worth designer, Shavonne Dorsey, has been in the market for several years and has given her clients a trendy and classy offering of plus size fashion since emerging as “Designer in Residence” out of the Chicago Fashion Incubator at Macy’s on State Street several years ago.
