Local Colorado ski resort sends needed warmth to Afghanistan

SolVista Basin at Granby Ranch recently partnered with a Colorado non-profit organization, Morning Star Development, to bring warm winter clothing to families in rural Afghanistan. The climate in the capital city of Kabul is similar to Denver, and the winters are harsh.

The clothing was made available through a program that recycles the skiwear of resort employees and is being distributed at Morning Star’s Community Centers located throughout rural Afghanistan and other locations focusing on the rural poor and orphans.

The clothes donated by SolVista Basin are part of 100,000 pounds of clothing and supplies that came from Colorado enterprises and were airlifted out of Buckley Air Force Base in Denver. USAid and several U.S. military organizations have provided logistical assistance as these supplies were flown to Germany and then on to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
