The women’s golf programs at three local colleges have been recognized by Golf World magazine and the Women’s Golf Coaches Association for the excellence of their women’s golf programs. In poll results released March 13th, 2013, Stanford University, California State University–Monterey Bay (CSUMB), and UC Santa Cruz were ranked among the Top 25 in their respective divisions.
The Stanford University women’s golf program was ranked #10 among Division I programs; the Lady Cardinal squad recently won their third straight title at the Juli Inkster Invitational, an annual tournament hosted by the San José State University women’s golf team at Almaden Country Club.
CSUMB was ranked 21st among Division II schools; the Lady Otters’ most recent result is a second-place finish March 3rd at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo. Sonoma State was ranked just outside the Top 25 in Division II, receiving 40 votes to rank 27th.
The UC Santa Cruz women’s golf program tied for 21st among Division II schools; the Lady Slugs have made some strong showings in the 2012–2013 season, winning the Lady Bulldog Fall Classic, hosted by Texas Lutheran University, last September – an invitational tournament which included squads from some Division II schools. Four members of the Slugs’ five-player squad placed in the top 6 in individual results in the tournament.
