Local City Celebrates Peace

A couple of days ago I attended a planning meeting for next month’s “A Day of Peace Celebration” scheduled for March 23rd to be held at Lueder’s Park in Compton. The event is being co-sponsored by The City of Compton (Parks & Rec., Library Branch), First Charity Missionary Baptist Church, WSS Shoe Co. and other community partners. The purpose of the day is to inspire youth and encourage the community to promote a quality of life that represents peace, harmony and respect for the fellow citizens of Compton, and surrounding areas. The organizers are encouraging support from various community stakeholders (i.e., big churches, little churches, schools, businesses, agencies, social clubs, leaders, etc.) to make this special day one to remember for years to come.

The event is FREE and will start at 11 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. with a host of activities being planned that include free food, live performances by students, speeches from prominent citizens, guest speakers, gospel choirs, poets, rapper’s, DJ’s, arts and crafts, vendor’s, giveaways, and a peace balloon release. With Compton and other communities dealing with the aftermaths of recent acts of racial violence; this event can be a true blessing.

One of the planning committee members said that the overwhelming majority of Compton’s residents respect one another, and want the same thing: a good and safe place to live and work, a quality education for their children and the opportunity to pursue happiness. It doesn’t matter your color – brown, black, white, yellow or red (I apologize if I left anyone out) most people truly want the benefits listed above that is realized when communities unite with a focus on working together to enrich one another’s lives.

The planning committee wanted me to inform readers that they are encouraged to help promote this special event. You have more than a month to get the word out by sending this article to them, call them, text, word of mouth, or by any means you feel adequate.
