According to the website, "Tailored for Naturals’ goal is to create a variety of products that are tailored for individuals to showcase to the world how much they love their hair in its natural state."
Below, Kenisha Taylor, the creative force behind the locally based company, shares her personal hair story and the inspiration behind her businesses.
Her hair story …
My natural hair journey actually began in 2004 and I was natural for approximately three years.
However, I was very frustrated with the process and was uneducated on what products to use and how to maintain my natural hair.
I continued to get blow-outs to get the relaxed look and was using extremely high heat on my hair (ouch!).
I eventually gave in and relaxed my hair. I started my journey again in June 2009 and did a tremendous amount of research by reading blogs and watching YouTube videos.
I decided to do the big chop on June 2010 and I have never looked back.
The difference with this journey is the amount of knowledge that I have on how to maintain my hair in its natural state.
It is an awesome journey and I absolutely love being natural (hence the logo of my new company).
Her advice to those contemplating wearing their hair natural …
I am an advocate for women to wear their hair natural and I think it is imperative for women to understand the type of hair they have and what works best for THEM and not OTHERS.
Be patient with your hair and as well as the products you are using. TRUST me; you will be happy that you gave your hair a chance. Time really does fly by.
I was super excited to wear the twist-outs and afro when I saw all of the different pictures of other women who were natural.
To help me through the process, I wore my hair in braids and sew-in weaves.
Give your hair products a chance to work. Unless it is damaging your hair, use the product a few times to get the maximum results.
Results don’t work overnight. I have tried several hair products, but I must admit I have gone back to my initial hair regime.
Don’t be afraid to wear your hair in its natural state in the workplace. EMBRACE IT.
I actually received more compliments from people at my job of other races about my natural hair than I did with my relaxed hair.
I even had a Caucasian coworker tell me "I wish I could be versatile with my hair like you are with yours". Confidence starts from the inside.
Not everyone will have the same type of results when using the same hair products or creating the same hair style.
Just like our fingerprints, everyone has a different type of hair texture that is like no other.

I was inspired to launch Tailored for Naturals, LLC to have a variety of items available for individuals to use to showcase to the world how much they LOVE their hair in its natural state aside from the norm.
I wanted to provide items that are eco-friendly and economically feasible to purchase on any budget.
At this time, we are offering FREE SHIPPING to all of our customers with no minimum purchase. In addition, our T-shirts are on sale for $15.00.
The business has started off to a great start and I am very excited to see what the future holds.

Advice for those contemplating starting their own business …
Do your research thoroughly! Do not use only the internet. Go to your local library and read books on starting your own business.
Check in your area for free seminars and workshops for small businesses.
Use companies that have a positive referral base and check the Better Business Bureau website.
Know your market niche and do a market analysis to determine what your customers want and what is in demand.
What the future holds for Tailored for Naturals …
Our current and future customers can expect new items, additional colors available for some of our current items (requested by current customers) and an all natural hair products line in 2012.
