Shippingsupply.com, a local Milwaukee business since 1994, specializes in shipping supplies and packaging equipment. The company has recently been putting more of a focus on establishing it's online presence as a way to drive traffic to their website and ultimately increase sales and impact their bottom line.
Jim Baker, who's past and previous history is quite obscure and unknown to even his cohorts at ShippingSupply.com, has stepped into the role, initially making an impact with Blogger. "Blogger is a fantastic tool," Jim said. "It's easy to get on there. It's easy to create a username and password. It's easy to write for some people. And it's easy to make it look pretty. That's what ultimately drives traffic to the site--making the blog look pretty." explained Jim, sharing a little of his online strategy.
Jim Baker has currently written 3 blog posts. He's also becoming a regular contributor to Examiner.com. "Businesses are starting to do studies, and what these studies are showing is that people like to shop online more nowadays. Maybe they don't like other people; maybe it's easier to sit at home rather than get in the car and drive somewhere--the price of gas has a lot to do with it; the price of gas controls pretty much everything," Jim explained.
Jim Baker saw an opportunity to reach people online and through social media because they are sitting at home trying to avoid going outside and having to buy gas to drive places; "If they want to sit at home, we'll still get them, we'll just get them at home," said Jim. "It's just like with the TV. We got TV's put in all the houses and got back their business in the 50's when they were startin' to spend too much time at home. Now they're online; we're gettin' 'em online.
