Re-posted from my blog: Malted Musings.
Back East Brewing Company is a fairly new brewery to Connecticut, but have already brought home several medals for their stellar beer. Focusing on solid, high-quality recipes, Back East is currently spreading like wildfire across CT, both in package stores and restaurants alike! I happened to bump into them at the Eli Cannon's Tap Room Beer Fest the other day, and I got a little insight into this young brand.
Back East was founded by Edward Fabrycki, Jr. and Tony Karlowicz, two craft beer fans and longtime craft brewers. Though they just recently started a full production brewery, their beer is already making a splash in the beer world. Their Porter and Back East Ale styles both took home medals in the Great International Beer Fest (gold for the porter and bronze for the ale). Beyond that many restaurants use Back East for pairings with various dishes due to the superb balance and taste profiles of their many styles.
This year there was so much interest for the Summer Ale at the brewery that they actually had to brew an entire new batch of the Summer halfway through the season to accommodate the demand! As far as what’s new for this up and coming brewery, the next step may be to start phasing out growlers a bit to introduce more cans into the mix. As a huge fan of cans, I am vastly excited for another local brewery to be making the step into the silver cylinders!
They are currently open to the public Wednesday-Friday, 4-7 PM, and Saturday Noon-4PM. When you stop down you can grab a tasting and on Saturdays you can take a tour. Expect to see more abut this brewery in this blog further down the road. Until then try some of their beer for yourself, then follow me on Blogger, Twitter, and Facebook for more local brewery info and news!
